Out of an abundance of caution and because I am a privacy advocate, I am posting a privacy policy for my website.
Information Collected
It is not my intention to collect any personal information from you beyond what data may be needed to technically show you this website. I do not (intentionally) use any analytics software to analyze trends, understand how users interact with my site, or otherwise improve this website.
There are at least two exceptions to the above statement:
- If you chose to contact me, I do require submitting a name and email address. Most of these messages get deleted, but I often intend to retain personal messages or amusing spam until I die or my hosting services cease. You are, of course, free to ask to me access these messages and request me to delete them.
- The privacy practices of embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos, SoundCloud audio, etc.) are all over the map. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited the other website. These services likely collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Sharing of Information
I do not sell or share any personal information I collect on this website with any third parties. Aside from embedded media and the occasional widget, it is my intention for there to be no third-party trackers on my website. This is easier said than done, and I would encourage anyone that finds any problematic privacy practice on my website to contact me. It’s my goal to disable as much WordPress functionality as I can without compromising my aesthetic goals with the site.
Security
It is my intention to take reasonable steps to protect the information collected by this website from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Alas, no website or internet transmission is completely secure.
Changes to this Policy
I will update this privacy policy from time to time based on my whims (or if I decide to offer free wine for some reason). I won’t advise anyone to periodically review this policy, and if I ever make some sort of material change and decide to run targeted ads on this site, state law and the FTC’s views of its Section 5 authority take precedent over any claim I might make that visitors have somehow consented to this.
