Whenever I see colleagues start contributing to some online publication, it tends to trigger in me a desire to write something of my own. A good example of this is Brookings Tech Stream, so I was sincerely tickled when Brookings Tech Stream reached out to see if I’d be interested in collaborating with Joshua Foust, a communications and gaming scholar, to write about data governance issues in video games.

It was never clear how my name came up. Foust had written a piece that had gotten some attention from policymakers, and there was a desire for a more lawyerly policy-oriented follow-up. I have written about the legal issues around video game privacy, and someone evidently suggested I might make for a good co-author. Regardless, in between my stints at Common Sense Media and the Meta Metaverse Factory, it was fun to collaborate on a reputable piece on video games for Brookings!
