SCOTUS
Overview | With President Obama's two appointments to the bench, this is a horribly out of date doodle of SCOTUS, but ah well. I'm a law student and I have nothing else to lead this section of the site with. My Justice
Breyer needs some work, but it's not horrible, right?
Caricatures
I try to exercise my artistic abilities once or twice a year by drawing personalized caricatures of my friends.
These doodles usually end up being my favorite works, but, since they're ostenisibly for my friends' eyes only, I'm
going to refrain from putting any of them online, unless somebody wants to give me permission or, well, I've ceased to
be his/her friend.
Ben West | Though Ben is currently analyzing piracy for STRATFOR, once upon a time he and I were fellow Germanophiles. I whipped this up before he left to study abroad back in 2004, which now that I think about it was probably the year my artistic abilities peaked. This was the last thing I drew that year...
Sassan Tabatabai | He was the very first professor I met in college, and I've known the man ever since.
Sassan Tabatabai is a Persian of many colors--he appeared my first day of class with a bow tie and spouting poetry. Since that
time I've learned he's also a boxer, a ladies' man, and a Bob Marley fan. I figure showing this sketch of the Silver Fox can't hurt
since he's (1) a university professor and (2) he'll probably never check out see this site anyway. Tabatabai was a great mentor
of mine in college and a boxer and lover of fine poetry.
Keith Botsford | Like Sassan Tabatabai, Keith Botsford
was my source of inspiration in college. He was also a crazy, chain-smoking
old man who loved Pepsi and knew a dozen languages. I drew this before he
retired and took off to parts unknown with some Pepsi. He was kind enough
to publish the drawing in an issue of his magazine, News
from the Republic of Letters, so this has already been broadcast
to the world a bunch of literary elites.
Sketches
Considering I used to carry a sketchbook with me everywhere, it's a tragedy that the last time I actually sketched anything was sitting atop the Grand Canyon in 2008. Maybe after law school?
Reading Wizard | For the longest time, I've enjoyed doodling
wizards and Mario-esque mushrooms. So a few years ago, I combined the two.
Saint Augustine | During the formulation of my senior thesis, I grew to have a
bizarre mancrush on St. Augustine. His words didn't speak to me particularly, but I thought the guy
was pretty cool, shaking off the fall of Rome like a mere act of God. This sketch is based off a teeny
tiny sculpture of the man at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.
